Ingredients
  • 400 g flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp ground ginger
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 120 g of soft butter
  • 1 egg
  • 120 g of sugar
  • 1 packet of vanilla sugar (10 g)
  • 160 g of honey or molasses
  • Zest of half a lemon or orange quarter

This classic recipe for gingerbread is one of my family';s favorites! The combination of ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon does its job! The result is a soft, flavorful and incredibly delicious Gingerbread Cookies that you can eat on Christmas Day with your family or pack individually and present to your friends!

Step by step recipe description:

In a large bowl combine sifted flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and spices: cinnamon, nutmeg, ground ginger. Mix.

Whisk soft butter with an egg, sugar and vanilla sugar.

Add zest and honey (or molasses) and mix well.

Gradually add dry ingredients and knead the dough.

The dough will be soft, not sticky.

Form a ball from the dough and wrap it in plastic wrap, put in the fridge for half an hour.

After half an hour get the dough out of the fridge, remove the wrap. Roll out the dough on a baking paper or a silicone mat (thickness - not less than 0.5 cm, either it will be too dry).

Cut gingerbread cookies with a glass or molds, transfer to a baking sheet covered with baking paper.

Preheat the oven to 175 C. Bake gingerbread cookies for 7 minutes (do not overdo, otherwise the cookies will be hard), then get the cookies out of the oven and cool. Immediately after removing from the oven, they are very soft, it is necessary to wait for 5-10 minutes, then put them on a rack to cool completely.

Decorate gingerbread cookies when they are completely cold. I used ready-made white icing. Store cookies in an open container. Enjoy!
